SocialSchedules is proud to be an integration partner for Scheduling and Payroll with Genius Restaurant POS ("Genius"). This guide covers connecting your account, importing employees, and syncing schedules.
1. Connect Social Schedules to Genius POS
Log in to SocialSchedules.
Go to Settings > Integrations > Point of Sale.
Click Genius for Restaurants.
Enter your Genius API key (obtain from your Genius representative; each location needs its own unique key).
Select which data to import (all options recommended).
Click Next — you'll see "Successfully Connected."
Once connected, sales data flows automatically from Genius and can be used for sales forecasting and labor-cost-vs-sales reporting.
2. Import Employees from Genius POS
Log in as Admin or Manager with Network access.
Go to Network > Bulk Action (...) > Import Workers > Genius POS Restaurant.
If not yet integrated: enter your API key, then click Next. If already integrated: review the connection details, then click Next.
Choose whether to send invites to new employees (off by default).
Choose whether to append country code to phone numbers.
Click Import.
Review the "Import Complete" notification for workers added/skipped.
Note: Employees import from Genius one time only. After that, employee records are in dual maintenance and must be updated in both systems.
3. Match Workers and Positions (for Time Clock Control)
Premium feature. Requires Genius connected and employees imported first.
Once workers are matched, clocking in on the SocialSchedules time clock logs the worker into Genius POS with the correct access level automatically. This matching is also required before schedules can sync (Section 4).
Match Workers:
In Genius: confirm the Labor Scheduling setting is enabled.
Log in to SocialSchedules as Admin > Menu (Location) > Integrations > POS > Genius Restaurant POS.
Review Auto Match Workers — SocialSchedules matches workers by name and email/phone. Click Show Detail to compare records side by side.
Manually match any remaining workers.
Click Ignore Match to exclude a worker — their clock-ins will not be sent to Genius.
Match Positions:
Same screen: Integrations > POS > Genius Restaurant POS > Match Positions.
Match each Genius position to its SocialSchedules position.
Verify position assignment in Genius:
In Genius: Location Setup > Staff > select a worker.
Check Job Type and confirm all positions matched in SocialSchedules are assigned as job types.
4. Sync Schedules with Genius POS
Prerequisites:
Administrator-level access
Premium Plan subscription or higher
Active Genius connection
Genius positions and workers already mapped in SocialSchedules
Steps:
Go to Settings > Integrations > Point of Sale > Genius for Restaurants.
Open the Connection Details tab.
Enable Sync Schedules with POS.
Once enabled, the next two business days' schedules sync to Genius automatically every 15 minutes, so they can be enforced through the Genius time clock. Only shifts with mapped positions and workers will sync. Existing schedules in Genius are overwritten by the SocialSchedules schedule.
Optional — Enforce Early Clock-In (set in Genius, not SocialSchedules):
In Genius: Location Setup > Settings > Labor Scheduling.
Enable Labor Scheduling.
Set the Early Clock-In threshold (minutes before scheduled start that login is blocked).
Troubleshooting
New employee added to Genius after initial setup
They must also be manually mapped/matched in SocialSchedules. If mapping is incomplete, the time punch can't be matched and results in a missing timecard.
Missing time punches
It is not possible to get missing time punches by back dating an employee start date— time punches are only shared live, at the moment of clock-in/out. The work around for this is to manually add a timecard in SocialSchedules for any missing punches.
Position match unexpectedly changed
Position matching is 1:1. Re-mapping a position (e.g., changing "Expo Trainer" to "Expo") unsets the existing link — there's no multi-mapping.
Import errors or skipped workers
After an import, an error log is available — click Show Log to view details and copy them for further investigation.
Bulk import limit
Maximum 200 workers per import. If your selection exceeds 200, the Import button is disabled until you deselect workers to bring the count to 200 or fewer.
Invite links reported as broken
Sending invites directly from the import screen is not recommended due to reported bad links (under investigation). Send invites from the Network tab instead.
Schedules not syncing to Genius
Confirm: Premium Plan or higher, active Genius connection, and that the specific position/worker combination is mapped in Section 3 — unmapped shifts are silently excluded from sync.
Employee data out of sync after import
Expected behavior — imported employees are in dual maintenance and changes must be made in both Genius and SocialSchedules going forward.
Disconnect from Genius
If for some reason, you need to disconnect from Genius POS
Settings > Integrations > Point of Sale.
Click Genius for Restaurants.
Click Disconnect.
Optional: purge historical sales data from SocialSchedules.
Disconnecting stops sales data flow and forecasting.
