In-app messaging

Use in-app messaging to communicate with employees

Written by Emma

Introduction

SocialSchedules provides a messaging function to enable communication with employees.

Desktop app

In the desktop app, open Messages by clicking the chat icon in the top right corner. This opens a full screen view of your messages.

  • The left side lists all your message threads. Unread messages appear in bold, with the most recent at the top.

  • Click a thread to open the full conversation on the right.

  • Reply using the text box at the bottom of the screen.

Click the icon in the top right of a message to view its options. Available options may vary depending on your role, and whether you're the message owner or a participant.

  • Mute notifications: Stop receiving in-app notifications when someone replies to this message.

  • Allow replies: Turn off to prevent recipients from replying to the message.

  • Rename conversation: Give the conversation a title to make it easier to find.

  • Exit conversation: Remove yourself from the message thread. You can then choose to delete the message history completely, or keep it and simply stop receiving future messages.

Note: Messages that have not received a post in the last 12 months are archived and no longer visible. Please email [email protected] to request reinstatement.

Send message

To start a new message, click the pencil icon next to Messages.

You can send a message to:

  • One or more individual employees

  • One or more entire locations

  • One or more entire departments

Select recipients from the list provided, or start typing in the To field to search.

Enter your message in the text box at the bottom of the screen. You can also add an attachment — supported formats are PDF, PNG, JPEG, and CSV — and emojis are supported too.

Subject

The previous version of Messaging let you enter a subject when creating a message on the desktop app. This has been removed — the message list now shows the sender/participant names instead.

If you'd like to name a thread yourself, use the Rename conversation option, which will replace the participant names in the message list.

Permissions

Administrators can control whether Workers are able to message each other directly.

To set this, go to Settings > Team > Messaging.

Mobile app

You can also view and send messages from the mobile app.

Tap Messages in the bottom menu to see your message threads. Tap a message to open it, and use the reply field at the bottom to respond. Tap the ellipsis (...) to view further message options.

To view a message, simply click on it.

A reply function is available at the bottom.

Click on the ellipsis to bring up further message options.

Send message

Tap the pencil icon to open the New Message screen. Choose which Workers, departments, or locations to send to, then enter your message and send.
